Details

The WyreStorm EX-40-H2-ARC is a 4K60 4:4:4 HDBaseT 2.0 extender set designed for residential installations that require audio return flexibility. Transmitting uncompressed 4K HDR video with sub-millisecond latency over a single Cat6a or Cat7 cable to distances of up to 40 metres, the EX-40-H2-ARC supports both ARC and S/PDIF return pathways from receiver to transmitter, alongside an analogue 2-channel audio breakout on the transmitter, making it the ideal choice for integrating modern displays with legacy audio systems.

The transmitter accepts a single HDMI 2.0 input with HDCP 2.2, supporting signals up to 4096×2160 at 60Hz 4:4:4 and an 18Gbps maximum data rate. The HDBaseT link carries the full uncompressed signal, reaching 40 metres at 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 over Cat6a or Cat7, and 35 metres over Cat5e/6. For 1080p content, transmission extends to 70 metres over Cat6a/7 and 60 metres over Cat5e/6. The receiver outputs to a full HDMI 2.0 port, with CEC pass-through maintained throughout the signal chain for ARC command routing.

Audio return flexibility is the defining capability of the EX-40-H2-ARC. The receiver passes an ARC signal from the display's HDMI ARC port back to the transmitter via the HDBaseT link, enabling audio from smart TV streaming applications to route directly to an AV receiver or amplifier without a separate audio cable run. A Toslink S/PDIF output on the receiver provides an alternative return path for displays without HDMI ARC support. On the transmitter, a 3-pin Phoenix analogue output enables 2-channel audio breakout from the HDMI source for integration with legacy amplification. HDMI audio carries PCM 2.0/5.1/7.1, Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, and DTS:X; ARC and S/PDIF return paths support PCM 2.0, Dolby Digital, and DTS 5.1.

The EX-40-H2-ARC represents a meaningful upgrade on its predecessor, the EX-35-H2-ARC. Video transmission is now fully uncompressed rather than relying on visually lossless compression, end-to-end latency has been reduced to under 1 millisecond, and the maximum 4K distance over Cat6a/7 increases from 35 to 40 metres. HDR support now encompasses Dolby Vision low-latency (LLDV), HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG, replacing the previous 30Hz Dolby Vision ceiling. The in-box power supply now also includes an Australian adapter.

Both transmitter and receiver share a slim 21mm chassis — 195mm wide and 94.8mm deep — suited to discreet placement behind displays or within rack enclosures. Bi-directional Power over Cable (PoC) allows either unit to power the other across the Cat cable, reducing the number of power supply points required in a typical installation. Bi-directional IR pass-through via 3.5mm TRS and RS-232 via 3-pin Phoenix are included for full control system integration. The unit ships complete with power supply (US, EU, UK, and AU plugs), mounting brackets, IR cables, and Phoenix connectors.
