Screen Research’s rigorous program of continuous development ensures that they stay ahead of the game, bringing the best screen fabric technology for any application. This is of fundamental importance as the fabric of the surface responsible for the reflection and projection of the image, is the heart of any screen. They continue to work with the industry’s leading Certification Bodies, such as THX and ISF, to achieve reference performance into every aspect of their fabrics.
ClearPix™ Fabrics
The magic of home cinema is based on the suspension of disbelief, that moment when the viewer is totally immersed in an audio or video experience, when sound and image work seamlessly. This challenge has driven the development of Screen Research's patented ClearPix™ screen fabric.
Ideally, with the large images possible with a projection screen, loudspeakers need to be placed behind the screen. This presents obvious problems. A conventional solution is to micro perforate the screen and apply acoustic correction to the audio signal. With the advent of fixed pixel projectors, the regular pattern of holes in the screen can coincide with the image matrix, creating a disturbing visual effect, moiré.
ClearPix™ fabrics solve both of these issues in one fabric. The fabric's woven construction avoids moiré and provides an acoustically transparent structure with minimal insertion loss and no need for acoustic correction. At the same time, ClearPix™ fabrics maintain perfect colour balance and a uniform white field, with no hot spots for the ultimate video performance. Such are the performance levels of ClearPix™ fabrics for both audio and video that it is certified to both THX and ISF standards.
Every THX Certified Projection Screen is tested to ensure that the optical properties do not impact the chrominance, luminance or uniformity of the projected image. THX analyses the micro perforations and screen materials to make sure that it is manufactured in such a way that it’s invisible to the eye when viewed from your seating position. This acoustically transparent material makes it possible to place the loudspeakers behind a THX Certified screen, allowing for a smooth sound experience in relation to the picture.

FusionPix™ Fabrics
This screen material is designed for reference video performance in applications with the presence of ambient light, or for rooms with light coloured walls. It is also the perfect match for the latest generation of high brightness Home Cinema projectors, providing excellent contrast ratio in ambient light applications, while maintaining no compromise colour uniformity and off axis performance for which Screen Research projection surfaces are world famous.
The 0.9 gain value of this ultra high resolution grey screen material is the perfect balance to obtain excellent black levels together with reference colour uniformity and no hot spot effect. The 0.6 Grey option is the perfect solution for those wanting ALR, whilst utilising a UST projector. This screen material is ISF and PVA certified and can be supplied on many Screen Research product families
New for 2024 is the FusionPix Sonic 2 Grey FS2 is perfect for acoustic transparency and ALR (with a gain of 0.8). Similar properties to FP2, but now with micro Perf.
Codes : FP2/FP/FS2
SolidPix™ Fabrics
Screen Research's ISF and PVA certified SolidPix range of solid screen fabrics are designed to beindustry class leaders. Engineered at a materials level to provide optimum levels of reflectivity, diffusion, texture and elasticity, the prime development goal was to obtain the most faithful image possible, on and off axis. This guarantees an image true to the projected source for all viewers, regardless of their seating position.
These off axis characteristics ensure the absence of areas that are brighter than others, known as 'hot-spots'. This phenomenon can be disturbing when viewing large areas of colour, such as plain backgrounds, snow fields or large areas of sky.
Excellent colour and gain performance make SolidPix 2 White 0.9 ideal for use with all types of projectors, particularly with the increasing demands of high definition material. The SolidPix Sonic White 0.75 is the micro-perforated acoustically transparent version of it.
SolidPix 3 Grey 0.5 (S3G) makes the most of the performance level of high powered projectors and offers stunning black levels without compromising colour fidelity.
SolidPix DoubleFace White 0.8 (S1D) is a special screen material surface that can be used in both front and rear projection applications. This negative gain fabric can also be used in applications with some ambient light presence because of its very good ambient light resistance characteristics, especially for rear projection.
SolidPix LightStop White 0.9 (S1S) screen material is a double layer laminated screen material with black back side, which brings reference ISF certified white screen material in applications where it is necessary to block the light coming from the back of the screen. It achieves great image contrast even in strong back-lighting applications. Available on motorised drop down screens only.
SolidPix Sonic White (PPW) will continue to be available but only with the motorized drop-down screen models SLMF, CLCLT, CLCTS and CLIC, as the only acoustically transparent option for those entry-level screens.
New for 2024 :
SolidPix Sonic 3 Grey (P3G) : Acoustic transparency, ALR plus specifically designed to with with UST projectors.
SolidPix Sonic 2 White (P2W) : Cost effective acoustic transparent for use in dedicated home cinema rooms with dark walls.
Codes : S2W/S3G/PPW/S1S/S1D/P3G/P2W
