Its vented bottom and sides reduce heat for the equipment to be placed on the shelf.

It also allows the attachment of optional clamping bars to secure components and also accepts mounting of PD-815SC-PBSH power strip.

Sold in a space saving pack of 4 pieces and is very easy to install.
