These strain reliefs are designed to work with most large diameter LAN cables and to fit over Simply45 shielded with external ground RJ45 modular plugs. It can work with cable diameters up to 8.5mm. It is recommended for all shielded with external ground RJ45 modular plugs. You can also use these strain reliefs with other unshielded large diameter LAN cables such as CAT6 shielded and CAT6 shielded direct burial.

It takes the strain off the terminated plug. If not using a strain relief, any contact with the plug or cable puts strain directly on the terminated plug and over time this could cause one or more of the RJ45 pins to become loose. If a pin becomes loose it will create electrical resistance. Resistance creates heat, which could cause performance problems or damage to the device socket.
